As a gym teacher, you are often overlooked during budget discussions, except when there are budget cuts. You're expected to support the students and the teachers in their desire for physical fitness, regular activity and an environment that encourages learning and growth. You have tried and tried again to make a case for town funding  to no avail. You've been told to work with what you have. We hear you! We hear your frustration and we're here to help. We've interviewed gym teachers across the country and the findings are consistent:

  • School budgets are being cut and 'specials' including gym, are the first to be impacted by these cuts.
  • Gym teachers are being asked to do more with less - less gym time, less budget but the same, positive outcomes
  • Gym teachers are expected to dig deep and get creative. They are evaluated on their ability to think outside the box, keep students active and work within time and budget constraints.
  • Winter, in the Northeast, poses the biggest challenge for gym teachers. Without the ability to go outside, there are limits to what can be accomplished in a 'too small' gym space or crowded classroom.
We are hosting a webinar where we can dig into this topic in more depth. We’ll discuss ways that, as a gym teacher, you can try to do your job most effectively with the best outcome. Next week's webinar is titled, Competing Priorities: Tips and tricks to manage your time and budget as a gym or health-ed teacher.
